‘Shredder’s Revenge’ is a fight back for Ninja Turtles fans

Like a bomb of nostalgia aimed directly at 90s arcade fans, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge it will surely delight anyone who remembers to put coins in Konami’s cooperative offices. The new game, developed by Dotemu (Streets of Rage 4) and Tribute Games (Mercenary Kings), is a four-player fighter who looks like a natural successor to Turtles in Time, Game Informer reports. And don’t worry, he’s not getting any hints at modern CG Turtles remakes – it seems to have been pulled almost entirely out of the syndicated ’80s TMNT cartoon. Just as the gods of nostalgia intended.

Tribute Games co-founder Jean-François Major said Game Informer that his goal, alongside Dotemu, was to bring the series back to everyone who grew up with the old cartoons and arcade titles. “Because we feel that people missed it,” he said. “And even us, because, personally, I played these games a lot as a child and missed them a lot. So that was the idea that started everything. “

Details are still being finalized for Revenge of the Shredder – there is no deadline yet, or specific console platforms named – but it’s clear from the trailer above that Dotemu and Tribute Games aim to recreate the joy of fighting alongside their friends as their favorite Ninja Turtle. (And we all know that Leonardo is the best, let’s go.) Fortunately, the game seems to recreate the original sprite-based aesthetic with the smoothness of modern 60FPS gameplay. And while the development teams are being demure about further improvements, I hope to have a chance to play as Splinter and April as well.
