Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Wednesday that more than 20,000 pregnant women received the COVID-19 vaccine and there were no “warning signs” from these patients afterwards, according to Axios.
- Fauci, one of the country’s leading infectious disease experts, said on Wednesday during a meeting at the White House that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the Food and Drug Administration, are still reviewing data to ensure that the vaccine be safe for pregnant women, the New York Post reports.
- “Approximately 20,000 pregnant women have been vaccinated without red flags,” said Fauci, for Spectrum News. “This is being monitored by the CDC and the FDA.”

What does the CDC say?
The CDC said that pregnant women are at higher risk for serious illnesses due to COVID-19, “including illnesses that result in ICU admission, mechanical ventilation and death compared to non-pregnant women of reproductive age.”
Limited data are available for the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine in pregnant women, however, according to the CDC.
- “There is limited data currently available from studies of reproductive toxicity and animal development. No safety concerns have been demonstrated in rats that received the Modern COVID-19 vaccine before or during pregnancy; studies of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine are in progress ”.
- More studies are being planned. Vaccine manufacturers are monitoring clinical trials to determine the impact.
