Shotgun snaps, a surprise when running back and more – The Athletic

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina held its fourth training session on Monday morning in spring, but it was only the second time that a section was opened to the media. The atmosphere was a little more professional than it was the first time members of the media were able to enter, two weeks ago. Not that things were loose the first time, but being Shane Beamer’s first training as a head coach, there was a bit of pomp and a little more of a “gee-whiz” feeling than we saw on Monday.

In that spirit, let’s continue with what we could see in about 30 minutes of access. My practical observations:

• I didn’t see many grooves in the center.

It was at this time last year that the then new and now ex-offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was sending the fan base into a spiral when talking about putting the defender in the center rather than the shotgun.
