INDIANÁPOLIS (DESIRE) – A customer fired a gun at a person who had taken goods from a jewelry store at Circle Center Mall on Monday afternoon, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

IMPD says no one was hurt.

Authorities were looking for a suspect after a shot was fired at about 2:30 pm on Monday at Twin Jewelers during what was initially described as an armed robbery, police said. The store is on the second level, close to the food court.

“I was standing outside the store waiting for customers to come in and then we heard a big bang and then people, we saw people running the other way and shouting, ‘There’s a sniper,'” said Madison Carter, who works at a store soon. below Twin Jewelers.

Sierra Hignite from News 8 reports that a person at the store jumped over a counter to pick up chains. Upon leaving the store and entering the mall, the person was shot by a customer.

An official told Hignite that stores inside the mall were closed while police were working to find the suspect. Some stores remained closed just before 3:30 pm

Police said they recovered a cartridge, but did not find a bullet. It is not clear at the moment whether more than one shot was fired.

The police are looking for the theft suspect and the man who fired the gun.

The police did not release any suspicious information.
