Shot at Andre HIill: forensic pathologist determines that Andre Hill’s death was a homicide caused by several gunshot wounds

Hill was shot in the chest and three in the right leg, according to Dr. Elaine Amoresano, the forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy.

Adam Coy, the former officer, shot and killed Hill, a 47-year-old black man, on December 22, seconds after the encounter. Hill was unarmed and was walking towards Coy holding a lighted cell phone in his left hand.

Coy was indicted in February on charges of homicide in the commission of a crime, criminal assault and two charges of abandoning duty – one based on Coy’s failure to use his body camera and the other “based on his failure to inform his fellow police officer of that he felt Andre Hill was a danger, “said Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.
The autopsy takes place at a time when the United States is still evaluating its history and current systemic issues of race. The country is emerging from a year of protests calling for police reform after the deaths of blacks like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Rayshard Brooks at the hands of the police.

The officer was fired in December

Coy answered a call around 1:30 am on December 22 to reports from a man who had been sitting in his SUV for a long time, turning the engine on and off several times.

Coy started shooting a few seconds after seeing Hill and turned on his camera after the shooting. However, the camera’s lookback feature captured 60 seconds of video, without audio, before Coy turned it on.

The footage from the body’s camera appears to show Coy and Hill walking towards each other. It is not clear whether Hill or Coy said anything during their brief interaction.

Andre Hill's family is relieved that the former officer who killed him has been indicted. But they are still not satisfied

In the first few seconds of the video from Coy’s body camera in which the audio is available, Coy ordered Hill to put his hands to the side, ordered him to lie down and warned an officer not to approach because one of Hill’s arms was under the car where it collapsed.

About 37 seconds after the shooting, Coy asked if a doctor was coming.

A report prepared by the Columbus police chief after the shooting said that a policeman who responded with Coy said he heard Coy say he saw a gun, and that Coy shouted, “You have a gun in your other hand, and a gun in your other hand. hand! “
As a result of the shooting, Coy was fired in December. Columbus police chief Thomas Quinlan, who stepped down in January, said in a statement released in December that the evidence against Coy provided “solid justification” for the resignation.
