Drew Brees does not look like someone about to retire from the NFL.
Brees coach Todd Durkin posted a video on social media on Saturday showing the Saints quarterback pushing a heavy sleigh in a parking lot and includes the captain: “I’m not sure why he’s so crazy today, but something must be graduating … “
Brees was expected to retire shortly after the Saints’ season ended with a playoff loss to the Buccaneers on 17 January. But he still doesn’t – and the longer he waits, the more it suggests that he may be reconsidering his options.
His video working out ferociously won’t calm those suspicions. Here is an excerpt from the video comment: “Drew, what are you doing? OK, he never did that! . . . I don’t know what he’s doing. . . It has never been done before! . . . You needed a challenge … It is a new record because it has never been done before! “
Brees was also due to retire in the off-season, before reversing the course in March and signing a two-year contract.
“Last year, he joined the Saints coaching staff at the Pro Bowl and they cried because it was their last game. He was retiring, ” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on The Rich Eisen Show this week. “And then he took a break and, lo and behold, he came back in March.”
Brees recently agreed to reduce his salary in 2021 from $ 25 million to the minimum of the league to help the Saints face the hell of the salary cap. This was interpreted as a sign that he is retiring.
But Brees is pushing that sled like a man planning to avoid passersby, not like someone concerned about keeping his father’s body in shape.
