Shia LaBeouf was barred by Netflix in the ads for her new movie “Pieces of a Woman” amid a lawsuit by her ex, FKA Twigs.
The underrated star, who has been accused of abusing Twigs and other girlfriends, has a leading role in the Oscar favorite that debuts on the streamer on Thursday.
He plays a bereaved father whose daughter dies in a tragic home birth, leaving his marriage on the brink.
Her co-star, Vanessa Kirby, has already received accolades – including the award for best actress at the Venice Film Festival – and is a sure bet to be nominated for an Oscar, alongside Ellen Burstyn, who plays her arrogant mother.
LaBeouf, who industry experts said could have been placed in the category of best supporting actor, has already been eliminated from Netflix’s award campaign.
And now, Netflix has removed it from its actual ads promoting the film.
An ad on Twitter, promoted by the Netflix Film account, says: “Vanessa Kirby and Ellen Burstyn star in Pieces of a Woman, a story about the love and loss of a mother. On Netflix January 7. “
Twigs – whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett – filed a lawsuit against LaBeouf in December, accusing the actor of “relentless abuse”, including sexual assault, assault and the imposition of emotional distress.
In an email to the New York Times, which released the story, LaBeouf said: “I am not in a position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, just rationalizations. “And,” I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting those closest to me. I’m ashamed of this story and I’m sorry for those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say. ”
However, regarding his ex’s abuse allegations, he also told the Times that “many of these allegations are not true”.
Kirby recently spoke in support of all survivors of abuse, telling the UK Sunday Times: “I am with all survivors of abuse and respect the courage of anyone who speaks their truth. Regarding the recent news, I cannot comment on an ongoing legal process. ”
LaBeouf, now dating Margaret Qualley, is in talks with his advisers to enter rehab.
Netflix and representatives of LaBeouf did not immediately comment.
