Shia LaBeouf on CAA hiatus after FKA Twigs abuse case

Shia LaBeouf and Hollywood talent agency CAA have split up, as the actor is currently receiving hospital care, Variety learned exclusively. The news follows a lawsuit filed in December by his ex-girlfriend, actor and musician FKA Twigs, who accused LaBeouf of physical abuse during their relationship.

Since then, LaBeouf has been accused of emotional abuse by several women, and a pattern of his behavior has been well documented over the years as he continued to work in the entertainment business.

CAA did not fire LaBeouf, say two people familiar with the matter Variety, explaining that the actor decided to take a break from acting so he could focus exclusively on his recovery and get the help he admitted he needed. CAA is not working with LaBeouf at the moment, and has not been working with him for about a month.

CAA did not respond to Varietyrequest for comment from.

LaBeouf has been receiving treatment for more than five weeks, a source said, and the actor is currently living in an inpatient unit. Your release will depend on your recovery.

A LaBeouf representative declined to comment on this story.

It is not clear what specific type of treatment LaBeouf is receiving. However, when LaBeouf responded to the sexual assault lawsuit last year, he admitted his alcoholism and aggression, claiming that he has abused those around him for years.

“I’m not in a position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel,” said LaBeouf in December in response to accusations of sexual assault, assault and the infliction of emotional distress. “I have a history of hurting those closest to me,” he added. “I’m ashamed of this story and I’m sorry for those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say. “

The turn of events for LaBeouf is different from the way the industry handled the recent claims against Marilyn Manson, who was dismissed by the CAA after Evan Rachel Wood accused him of abuse, and Armie Hammer, who was fired by the WME while allegations of several women continue to turn on the actor on social networks.

LaBeouf has a history of legal issues, arrests, problematic behavior and previous stints in alcohol addiction rehabilitation.

Before the lawsuit, in which FKA Twigs and another ex-girlfriend, stylist Karolyn Pho, accused LaBeouf of physical abuse, LaBeouf was filmed during a heated argument in 2015, where he almost became violent towards his intermittent girlfriend, actor Mia Goth, saying : “If I had stayed there, I would have killed her”.

The latest lawsuit says LaBeouf is a danger to women. The lawsuit blames the industry for ignoring its past behavior, which has been well documented in the news.

“Shia LaBeouf hurts women,” says the suit. “He uses them. He abuses them, both physically and mentally. He is dangerous. “

The lawsuit featured a series of horrific allegations by FKA Twigs and another of LaBeouf’s ex-girlfriends, stylist Karolyn Pho, who says LaBeouf drunk her in a bed and headbutted her hard enough to draw blood. FKA Twigs said in the lawsuit that on one occasion she was woken up by LaBeouf rising over her, violently squeezing her arms against her will and choking her, according to the lawsuit. On another occasion, she claims he was manic while driving, and when she tried to get out of the car, he threatened to fall, then stopped briefly at a gas station where he attacked her violently, throwing her against the car, shouting into her face and trying to strangle her. The suit also claims that LaBeouf consciously infected her with an STD.

In addition to the serious allegations of abuse, Variety I also heard from several sources that LaBeouf was difficult on sets, as his bad behavior and style conflicted with the cast and crew of a recent film from which he was fired by director Olivia Wilde.

After the lawsuit, Netflix also erased LaBeouf’s name from his Oscar campaign this season of the movie “Pieces of a Woman”, in which he is the male protagonist. LaBeouf – who reached fame on the Disney Channel “Even Stevens” and the megahit franchise “Transformers” – has no other projects in the works.

A person close to LaBeouf says that the actor is taking time out of his career to take care of himself and receive the care he needs.

Although LaBeouf representatives did not respond to this story, his lawyer, Shawn Holley, said Variety in December 2020, “Shia needs help and he knows it. We are actively seeking the type of meaningful, intensive and long-term inpatient treatment that he desperately needs. “

A lawyer for FKA Twigs and Pho said earlier Variety that before filing a lawsuit, women tried to resolve the matter in particular “on the condition that Mr. LaBeouf agrees to receive meaningful and consistent psychological treatment”. The women also asked LaBeouf to make a donation to a shelter against domestic violence. “As he was not willing to agree to get adequate help,” said the plaintiff’s attorney Bryan Freedman of FKA Twigs “filed this lawsuit to prevent others from unknowingly being abused by him”.

Variety contacted FKA Twigs and Pho for comment, in response to news that LaBeouf is receiving hospital treatment. (We will update this story if we have a response from the two women or their lawyer.)
