This is all wild, vague, and I’m here for it
Yu Suzuki will always be a legend for what he managed to create with Shenmue Series. But many people forget that he was one of the main guys at Sega AM2, launching hits like After Burner and Space Harrier; that were presented in Shenmue years later, as arcade games.
He’s over 60 now and apparently still has as much passion for the industry as he did in the 1980s: the long road to making Shenmue III is proof of that. So, what comes after that mentioned revival? Well, I hope more Shenmue so that we can really see the whole story! After all, more than 20 years have passed.
However, when it comes to the immediate future, things can get a little crazy at his studio, Ys Net. Recently, he talked to Famitsu to vaguely provoke what’s to come in 2021, and his keywords were ” shooting / RPG “. Ok … I can follow this.
Then he shared his ambitions for 2021, which are “to reflect on battles face to face” and the phrase “sequence”. So the sequence is probably Shenmue IV, but I wonder if the “shot” part is Suzuki being bitten by the battle royale bug.
Anyway, apparently there are plansand Shenmue III did not bankrupt the studio (Suzuki said its performance was “good” earlier this year). I am hopeful for what we will see next.
