The Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and the Ford Mustang Bullitt, two of the most distinctive accessories in the compact car line, have officially ended production. A Ford spokesman confirmed the Ford Authority on Sunday, the two cars were put to graze “at the end of last year”, although they did not share the exact dates.
This news is not a surprise. Ford confirmed the end of the GT350 in October 2020, presumably to make room at the top of the Mustang line for the more powerful and capable Shelby GT500. And with the arrival of Mach 1, Bullitt was fired.
Still, we will miss those cars. The GT350 was a return to the track domain for the Shelby name, with an excellent chassis and a 526 horsepower flat-cranked V-8 engine that could spin up to 8250 rpm. And collaborator Matt Farah called Bullitt, a tribute to the 1968 film of the same name, a car that “doesn’t need nostalgia to be great”.
With the next generation of Mustang coming, we don’t expect the GT350 name to remain dead for long. It will likely return in similar capacity ready for the track, although it is not clear at this point whether that wonderful 5.2-liter Voodoo engine will come with it. Only time will tell.
