The Shelby County Health Department will resume application of the COVID-19 vaccines on Tuesday, January 12.
Based on the distribution of the vaccine it confirmed on Friday it received, the Department of Health will offer the vaccines through consultations at the Pipkin Building, 940 Early Maxwell Blvd. at the Fairground, from 9 am to 6 pm, from Tuesday to Saturday.
Appointments can be made in the signupgenius online scheduling app. People without Internet access can call 901-222-SHOT to schedule an appointment starting at 8 am on Monday, January 11.
Other vaccination sites will be added across the county as the campaign progresses.
The Shelby County Health Department will receive 8,900 doses of the vaccine per week until the end of January, it announced late Friday afternoon.
“In the first weekly shipment in January, SCHD should administer up to 4,000 doses, with the rest of the vaccine being administered through hospital systems. The weekly break may change, ”according to a statement Friday, January 8, from the Ministry of Health.
During January, the vaccine will be available to people in the following categories: First aid with direct public exposure, including EMTs, police and firefighters; team working at COVID-19 mass test sites; long-term care facility staff and residents; and employees from other congregation care facilities, such as homes for the intellectually or developmentally disabled and detention centers.
This includes people working in residential child care facilities, rehabilitation hospitals and psychiatric hospitals who have direct contact with the patient or contact with potentially infectious materials.
The same occurs with the home health team with direct contact with the patient and the team. Anyone aged 18 or over who cannot live independently due to a serious chronic medical condition or disability is included. The same is true for people who provide health care at elementary and high schools or universities.
The list also includes funeral and mortuary staff, primary health care providers and people who work in outpatient centers. It includes pharmacists and patient transport workers, dental and behavioral health care providers and people working in environmental services or with COVID-19 specimens.
People aged 75 and over are also eligible.
To have a chance, people with an appointment need to present identification and proof of eligibility, including age, professional license or a letter from an employer.
