Sharon Osbourne struggles to return to ‘The Talk’ amid a long hiatus: ‘I don’t know if I’m wanted’

Sharon Osbourne is opening up about her future on “The Talk” and the heated discussion that led to the show’s hiatus.

The talk show, which has Osbourne, Amanda Kloots, Sheryl Underwood, Carrie Ann Inaba and Elaine Welteroth as co-hosts, will not return until next Tuesday, a CBS spokesman confirmed to Fox News.

It is the result of an exchange that took place between Osbourne and Underwood on March 10 over Piers Morgan, which Osbourne supported after his controversial comments about Meghan Markle. Osbourne later apologized with a long statement on social media for “anyone of color that I offended and / or anyone who feels confused or disappointed by what I said”.

Osbourne explains in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight why the discussion has become so tense.

To begin with, Osbourne claims that she was not sufficiently prepared for the discussion beforehand by producers and showrunners. Instead, she believes that her co-hosts received “written questions” while she was asked how to discuss her support for Morgan just eight minutes before the recording started.

“Sheryl turns around and asks me a question and … she was reading it on a card. It wasn’t on my cards. And then Elaine [Welteroth]is reading her questions and I’m like, ‘I was raised.’ They are arming me. My anger was like, I can’t believe it, I’m your sacrificial lamb, “recalls Osbourne.

In addition to his previous support for Morgan – who left his role as co-host of “Good Morning Britain” after a debate he had on the British show – Osbourne specifically got a negative reaction by saying to Underwood, “Don’t try and cry because if someone should be crying, it should be me. “

Osbourne says he understands that he was wrong to say this to Underwood, noting that his co-presenter “felt as much pain and probably as much fear as I did”.

“I confess what I did,” said Osbourne. “I can’t help confessing. I said what I said. I was very personal with Sheryl. I should never have told you to stop her tears. She was suffering as much as I was.”

Osbourne continued, “I love Sheryl, I apologized to Sheryl, she hasn’t come back and I can understand. Sheryl needs his time.”

The hostile co-host added that she is not sure if she wants to return to “The Talk” after the March 10 episode, because it is difficult to say whether it is too late for any resolution.

“I wish we could go on and have an adult conversation calmly and work it out, but I don’t know if we can,” explained Osbourne. “I don’t know if it’s past that. I would love to, but I don’t know if I want to go back … I don’t know if I’m wanted there.”

As for Osbourne’s claims that he is “a racist”, she insists that is not the case. She also discusses the importance of having another discussion on the air about how younger generations can help people their age to understand where they are coming from. She specifically says this is something her co-host Welteroth can help with.

“I really want to hear from young people,” said Osbourne. “Do I have my finger on the pulse of what is happening, with the situation of blacks in this country? No. … The pros and cons of the way the younger generation feels now, I don’t have a finger on my wrist. Elaine wants and Elaine really wants to improve this and have a conversation that can help other people, and probably people my age too, who would help them. “

“I’m not a racist and if you can’t attack your friend who happens to be black, it makes me racist because I said certain things to my friend, but did I say it on camera?” she asked.

Regardless of whether she returns or not, Osbourne said she will “continue to apologize” to Underwood.

“I have nothing but respect and a lot of affection for Sheryl. I don’t want to hurt her,” she said.

And in retrospect, Osbourne explained that she not only disappointed Underwood for “losing it”, but also “disappointed me”.

Meanwhile, Underwood opened up about the situation on his podcast, Sheryl Underwood Radio, last week.

“I really didn’t realize I was shooting. I thought we were having a conversation like we normally do. But then I got the feeling that, wait a minute, this is not what it normally is,” said Underwood, according to ET. “I also had another feeling that, OK, Sheryl, it’s time for you to take a leadership position … it’s time for you to show what you’re made of, and in a personal way. No matter what anyone says about you, I can show you something better than I can tell you. “

Underwood added that he “still loves” Osbourne. She also said that she is “falling in love” with the two new co-hosts, Welteroth and Kloots.
