Sharon Osborne got into an emotional debate with her co-hosts for “The Talk” on Wednesday, defending her friend Piers Morgan – and herself – after he accused Meghan Markle of exaggerating the allegations of racism in the British royal family.
“I liked it all [Morgan] said? Do I agree with what he said? No, because it is his opinion. It is not my opinion. But why did I support a longtime friend and co-worker of mine for years that everyone will, if you support him, then you must be racist because he is racist? ” said Osbourne, 68.
The tense and tearful exchange between Osbourne and his co-hosts came after she tweeted on Tuesday that she supports Morgan, who left “Good Morning Britain” amid criticism that he had attacked Markle after his interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday.
Morgan accused Markle of exaggerating allegations of racism in the royal family and said he did not believe she was discouraged from seeking mental treatment while she was suicidal.
“@Piersmorgan I am with you. I’m in your side. People forget that you get paid for your opinion and that you are just telling the truth, ”she wrote.
“The Talk” co-host and author Elaine Marie Welteroth said she understood why some people attacked Osbourne after posting on social media.
“Right now, we need people to fight for anti-racism,” said Welteroth. “When we give passes or give space to people who are saying harmful and harmful things, what we are doing is allowing … And I think that is what people are reacting to.”
Osbourne replied, “I feel like I’m about to be put in an electric chair because I have a friend that many people think is racist, which makes me a racist.”
She then challenged the other hosts to tell her “what he said is racist”.
Sheryl Underwood replied that Morgan’s “implication” dismissing Markle was racist, not the words themselves.
“Why can’t it be that he just doesn’t like her? Why do you have to be racist? ”Osbourne said.
