Sharks smell blood in the water with Deshaun Watson’s unrest with Texans

The fact that the Houston Texans and Deshaun Watson are not in the best of terms presented an opening for speculation that in itself is a sign of apparent dysfunction.

Just take a look at Raiders Wire. The oddsmakers are already casting lots for Watson’s shirt, speculating where he will play in 2021.

What exactly are the chances of Baker Mayfield playing for the Denver Broncos?

Because of the problems with Watson and the Texans, no matter how exaggerated they may be, or how accurate they may be, the possibility of him leaving the franchise is almost manifesting itself due to the attention he is receiving in the national media.

Before the playoff action on the divisional weekend, pre-match programs had segments reporting the situation with Watson and the Texans. Instead of having a segment about the new Texan coach, the issue is how strained the relationship is between Houston and his franchise quarterback.

It is not a good look.

Deserved or not, the focus of criticism is executive vice president of football operations, Jack Easterby. In addition to President and CEO Cal McNair, the only constant in the entire drama that has played at NRG Stadium since 2019 was Easterby. It is a fact that outsiders cannot fail to notice and, likewise, ponder why McNair cannot see this.

Texas fans are a captured audience, curious to know how many more purges the team will have to endure for McNair to realize that he has gone from being a playoff candidate to rebuilding in 12 months.

Watson must be in the conversation about what his chances are of being the 2021 MVP, not which team he will play for in nine months. McNair needs to gain control of the narrative that is escaping even more from his fingertips and put his franchise defender on the same page.
