Shaq Wilson returns to Gamecocks football program

Former South Carolina linebacker Shaq Wilson he returned to his alma mater, joining the football program as a defensive analyst. Wilson returns to Columbia after serving three seasons on the Tennessee football strength team, with the title of Assistant Director of Sports Performance.

Wilson had previously occupied an off-field role with the Gamecocks after his playing career ended. He was assistant director of personnel for football players after serving for a season as assistant director of recruitment.

Wilson first came to South Carolina in 2008 as a linebacker at First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Winner of the cards for four years (2008-09, 2011-12), Wilson led the Gamecocks in tackles in 2009 and again in 2012. He served as a team captain in his senior season. Wilson graduated from African American studies in 2012. He worked for Carolina Football as a graduate assistant during the 2013 campaign. In 2014, Wilson took a full-time role as quality control coordinator for the defense. In this position, he assisted defensive coaches in the quality control study of each game and season, including video analysis, breakdown and scouting graphics, and assisted in daily personnel management.

Defensive striker Wilson’s former teammate Byron Jerideau, also returned to the program as an assistant strength trainer. The two have been in Knoxville together for the past three years.
