Supported by some big names, Oklahoma assistant coach for the attack, Shane Beamer, will be interviewed for the South Carolina coach vacancy and is a strong candidate for the job, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
Beamer, son of Hall of Fame coach Frank Beamer, was South Carolina’s recruiting coordinator in 2009 and 2010, when the Gamecocks brought together some of their best recruiting classes in school history, serving as the basis for three consecutive 11-year seasons. wins and three consecutive best -10 finishes in the final polls.
An assistant on Steve Spurrier’s 2007-10 team, Beamer received increasing support from some prominent alumni to be the next head coach of the Gamecocks.
“Coach Beamer is someone who leaves an impression on you with his love and enthusiasm for the game,” former South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore, who is the program leader with 38 hurried TDs, told ESPN. “He makes you want to play for him. He’s smart and personal. He loves his family. That should tell you everything you need to know about how I feel about him and this job.”
Defenders of the Los Angeles Chargers submit Melvin Ingram, a three-time Pro Bowl selection in the NFL, and Patrick DiMarco, a Pro Bowl defender with the Atlanta Falcons in 2015 Beamer endorsed.

“Shane expressed that this is his dream job, and I believe that all fans are hoping that our next coach will be a Gamecock, like Shane’s father, Frank, at Virginia Tech,” DiMarco told ESPN.
“… Shane knows what it’s like to win. He knows what success is like and knows that it is created out of the culture and leadership that he will bring to the table. Shane has been successful everywhere he has been, and that does not it’s luck. “
Fomer South Carolina players DeVonte Holloman, Stephen Garcia and Tori Gurley also support Beamer’s signing.
“He was definitely a player’s coach. We all love playing for him,” said Garcia, who designed Gamecocks’ 35-21 game against then-No. 1 Alabama in 2010. “He always had energy and motivated us. I hope he does.”
DeAngelo Hall, who played with Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech recently suggested the idea of Beamer returning to train the Hokies.

Beamer, 43, played at Virginia Tech and trained with his father at Virginia Tech after leaving South Carolina. He is one of several candidates on the South Carolina list in his quest to replace Will Muschamp, who was fired on 15 November. Others include Jamey Chadwell of Coastal Carolina, Billy Napier of Louisiana, Scott Satterfield of Louisville, Hugh Freeze of Liberty and Clemson’s offensive coordinator Tony Elliott.
Satterfield, however, on Wednesday reaffirmed his commitment to Louisville and said he had not sought any other job offers. Freeze also told Gene Wojciechowski of ESPN last week that he was “in total peace” at Liberty and would not “entertain things of this nature right now” when asked about work in South Carolina.
