Shane Beamer presents the new transfers

South Carolina football signed five transfers this off-season.

Shane Beamer and the South Carolina football program brought five transfers during the off-season, as the team tried to reinforce a recruiting class that missed a series of commits after Will Muschamp’s resignation.

These five transfers help Gamecocks with depth in immediate positions of need and should be taken into account in the initial rotation as soon as they step onto the football field in 2021. Each enrolled in the spring semester at the university.

The debutants are wide receiver Ahmarean Brown, forwards Jahkeem Green and Jordan Strachan, linebacker Darryl “Debo” Williams and cornerback David Spaulding. Here’s what Shane Beamer had to say about each one at his press conference on Tuesday morning.

Ahmarean Brown

WR University of South Carolina

Brown has played for Georgia Tech in each of the past two seasons. As a freshman, he recorded a team leading 21 receptions, 396 yards and seven touchdown receptions. Last year, he started seven games and recorded 11 receptions for 183 yards. He is a major threat to the game, with a career average of over 18 yards per catch.

Gamecocks are in desperate need of pass catchers, especially with the Shi Smith receiver for the NFL. Read Beamer’s comments below.

“Excited. Obviously transferred from Georgia Tech. You look at what he did at Georgia Tech. He broke many records of receipt of the Calvin Johnson freshman … He will help us immediately in the position of the receiver. It brings a little speed and great gameplay skills, which we definitely need out there on the perimeter. “

Jahkeem Green

DT University of South Carolina

Green almost signed with Gamecocks in 2018, after a stint at Highland Community College, where he became one of the best JUCO recruits in the country. He originally committed to South Carolina, but chose to reopen his recruitment and eventually signed with Nebraska.

In two years with the Cornhuskers, Green recorded four tackles in eight appearances, but never broke the initial rotation. Before his arrival in Lincoln, he accumulated 117 falls with the Highland Scotties. He is a former four-star prospect.

“A local guy from Sumter who went to Nebraska, but ended up coming back to us. We looked and felt that we needed to add someone on the defensive line to the position of the internal defensive line … I always wanted to be in Carolina, but I had to make a little detour. Excited to have you. “

Darryl Williams

LB University of South Carolina

Williams committed to the University of Delaware in the 2020 class, but never played a handicap for Blue Hens as the school postponed the football season until spring. Williams was the best recruit in the state of Delaware and was named Mr. Football after a productive year in the past year.

Williams achieved a school record of 153 tackles in 2019, 32 of which fell behind the scrimmage line. He also registered eight sacks, after losing most of the junior season due to a knee injury. He will add immediate help to a linebacker room that is losing its best defender.

“Debo, as we call him around here, he was someone that MarShawn (Lloyd) brought to us … MarShawn came to me and Coach Kitchings and said, ‘I know this guy from home. Just take a look at his video. ‘Watched his video, you called and was like,’ My God, how was he not recruited by ACC, SEC, Big Ten? ‘ Really impressive video and productive high school career … When I told you last week that I entered the weight room at 5:45 am and there were two guys there already waiting, it was Debo and MarShawn … He is all professional and will help us in the position of linebacker. “

David Spaulding

CB University of South Carolina

Spaulding arrives in Columbia after a stint in Georgia Southern. He appeared in eight games last year, scoring seven tackles, an interception, a pass split and a touchdown. The Gamecocks lost five members of the secondary in the off-season, with Shiloh Sanders, John Dixon and Jammie Robinson being transferred, and Jaycee Horn and Israel Mukuamu choosing to pursue professional careers.

Spaulding helps provide the necessary depth in the group’s possibly narrowest position and should have some action in early 2021. His best performance came at the end of the Georgia Southern regular season, where he recorded four tackles and a pick, which returned with 28 yard score against the Appalachian State.

“It gives us some length in the defensive position of the back. Really impressive measurables when you look at their size and length … It will help us in another position of need where we are scarce in numbers in high school for different reasons. “

7

Jordan Strachan

LB / DE University of South Carolina

Strachan arrives in South Carolina after leading the country in bags last season. Over the 10-game season, the fast pass rusher totaled 10.5 sacks for the defense of Shawn Elliott in the state of Georgia. The former walk-on will provide a quick presence for a South Carolina unit that ranked last in the SEC in bags last season.

He will provide immediate depth on the external linebacker and can be a player who will line up in many different positions on the field. Over his three-year career, he scored 78 tackles while competing for a scholarship offer. Last year, he was a third team in all conferences and was nominated for the Burlsworth trophy, awarded annually to the best player in the country who started his career as a replacement.

“What a story. I was in the last year of high school with 85 kilos who walked in the state of Georgia, so, a few years later, he leads the entire nation in bags … He entered the Portal, we jumped into it immediately … He and ( Ahmarean Brown) have some familiarity with both in Atlanta at the same time. Two excellent young people who will help our locker room too. ”
