Monday night was a big night on television … and no, we’re not talking about the NCAA championship game.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers began his stint as a longtime TV presenter, “Jeopardy!”
Rodgers opened the episode with a tribute to the late Alex Trebek, saying that he is a “longtime fan” of the show and that it was an “incredible honor for the guest host”.
“I had the opportunity to do a lot of amazing things, but winning ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’ (in 2015) and sharing the stage with Alex Trebek was one of the things I will never forget, “he said. “Alex was a gentleman, so intelligent, so precise, that I was amazed. And I will work hard to honor his legacy.”
No one was more excited about Rodgers’ performance than his fiancee, actress Shailene Woodley. She shared a series of videos with her story on Instagram on Monday afternoon promoting the show as they drove with their dog in the back seat.
“I have a very important announcement to make,” she said enthusiastically. “This guy right here, this super sexy super attractive … guy is presenting ‘Jeopardy!’ tonight.”
She put Rodgers on the video, which added that there is “some laughter, maybe some tears, excitement, mystery, you never know.”
The two did a live Instagram stream of Rodgers during the championship basketball game break, answering fan questions about hosting the game show.
Rodgers revealed that his favorite category was the Bible, and that he spent “a ton of hours” studying to host while he was quarantined in Montreal at the start of the low football season.
“I watched each episode on Netflix several times, watched old episodes on my phone, I don’t know how to quantify it, but it’s probably 50 to 100 hours,” he said.
In response to fans asking whether he would rather win another Super Bowl or become the full-time host of “Jeopardy!” he had a one-word answer:
“Both.”
Another fan asked if he would leave football to host the show, but Rodgers said he did not plan.
“I just won the MVP, I still have a lot to do,” he said. “I’m still playing and I would love to introduce Jeopardy at the same time.”
“‘Danger!’ films five times a day, 47 days a year, “he added.” There are 230 episodes and I work six months a year. So for the other six months, I would probably have time to shoot 46 days, I think. “
Woodley agreed.
“Ah, yes, for sure, 100%, you could do a lot,” she said with a laugh. “And you thought he was a football guy … Nobody really knows you.”
