Severe storm warning, tornado alert in parts of northern Texas

A severe storm alert has been issued for parts of Dallas-Fort Worth while two bursts of rain and storms take place in northern Texas on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The first round will take place in the late afternoon and evening, and other storms will occur early Thursday, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).

Denton, Parker, Tarrant and Wise counties are under severe storm warning until 9:45 pm on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds are moving northeast at 30 mph and 2-inch hail has been reported, the National Weather Service said.

An additional severe storm alert that is scheduled to expire at 10 pm has been issued for Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Fannin, Grayson and Lamar counties. Several counties to the south and east of D-FW are also under tornado surveillance, including Ellis, Hill, Johnson and Kaufman.

A tornado warning expired at 7 pm in Van Zandt County and a severe storm warning expired in Kaufman County at 6:30 pm

Storms will be able to produce hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported. The amount of rain between a quarter and a half of an inch will be possible.

The storms are expected to end on Thursday morning with some prolonged showers from late morning until early afternoon, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).
