Severe storm alert issued for Dallas-Fort Worth

The National Weather Service issued a severe storm alert for northern Texas that will remain in effect until 6 pm Sunday.

A cold front has been set to move through the area, and the Meteorological Service has warned that some storms can produce hail and gusts of up to 70 mph.

The possibility of tornadoes could not be ruled out, according to the Meteorological Service.

In an update on Twitter at about 11 am, the Meteorological Service said a storm that moved northeast through Denton County was capable of producing nickel-sized hail.

“If it continues to grow stronger, the size of the hail is expected to increase,” said the Meteorological Service.

After the cold front passes, the threat of bad weather is expected to lessen, said Jason Dunn, a meteorologist at the Meteorological Service.
