Severe heat, end-of-day storms are possible today!

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Almost record high temperatures are expected today, as we observe a cold front slowly sliding eastward across the state with a line of rain and storms. This is the same storm system that produced dozens of tornadoes yesterday across the Deep South. Fortunately, this storm will be much weaker as it hits our inland areas, close to I-95, this afternoon and evening. The storms are expected to weaken, or disappear, before heading to shore tonight. Before storms, we expect a lot of sun and very hot temperatures. Inland areas will heat up in the mid-1980s this afternoon, close to the record 86 degrees of 1938. Coastal areas will be considerably cooler in the low 70s, with areas of sea fog touching the beaches at times.
