Several injured in accident involving more than 20 vehicles

The accident happened on I-24 East near Old Hickory Boulevard around 8 am, the Nashville Police Department said on Twitter.
Several people were injured on Saturday in a 21-vehicle accident on an icy road in Nashville.

Twelve people were taken to local hospitals, firefighters said. Twelve other people involved in the accident were not injured.

A winter weather warning was in effect on Saturday morning for much of central Tennessee, according to the Nashville National Weather Service.

“Freezing drizzle, freezing fog and light freezing rain can create very slippery conditions this morning. Slow down and be extra careful when traveling” NWS tweeted before the accident.
The message signs on I-24 on Saturday read, “Slow down, possible ice patches, be careful,” according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The road was reopened after being salted, officers said.
