Seven killed in random stab attack outside Chinese school

A crazed man fatally stabbed at least seven people – most apparently older women – in a suspected random knife attack in China, according to state media and a report.

The suspect, identified only by his surname, Yang, was arrested after the morning bloodbath in front of a closed school in Kaiyuan, Liaoning province, state television station CCTV said.

The man began attacking people, including some who appeared to have just left a nearby bathhouse, CCTV said. The victims also include seven wounded, like a policeman who tried to stop him.

Most of the victims, who were not identified by the authorities, appeared to be middle-aged or elderly women, a lady named Liu told the South China Morning Post.

The striker “appeared to be in his 50s,” added Liu, who runs a nearby music studio.

“[The suspect] he just stabbed strangers with a knife. It was really awful, ”she said.

“It is fortunate that the school ended today. Otherwise, there could have been more victims. “

Chinese law restricts the sale and possession of firearms, but mass knife attacks have become an alarming problem.

In June, a school security guard wielding a knife injured at least 39 people in a kindergarten in southern Guangxi. The culprit was sentenced to death.

In 2018, a man killed one and wounded 12 in a knife attack at a shopping mall in Beijing.
