Seth Rogen joins Steven Spielberg film based on the filmmaker’s youth

Seth Rogen is in talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s untitled film loosely based on the filmmaker’s youth growing up in Arizona. Rogen would play the role inspired by Spielberg’s favorite uncle.

Michelle Williams, four times nominated for an Oscar, is in talks to star in the project in an important role inspired by the filmmaker’s mother.

Although the plot details are being kept under wraps, Spielberg co-wrote the script with frequent collaborator Tony Kushner, who wrote “Munich”, “Lincoln” and, more recently, “West Side Story”.

The film, which currently tests actors to play a character inspired by a young Spielberg, will explore the main character’s relationship with his parents over the decades.

The untitled film is eyeing the start of summer production with a planned release date sometime in 2022. Spielberg, Kushner and Kristie Macosko Krieger are producing the project.

Rogen most recently starred and produced “Long Shot” for Lionsgate. Her first book, a collection of short stories called “Yearbook”, will be released on May 11th.

A well-known cannabis connoisseur, Rogen and his production partner Evan Goldberg launched a cannabis lifestyle brand website, Houseplant, in the United States earlier this month for overwhelming demand – so much so that the site went bankrupt.

Seth Rogen is represented by UTA, Marsha McManus and the law firm Felker Toczek.

Deadline first reported the news.
