The qualifying race lineups for Sunday’s inaugural Food City Dirt Race (3:30 pm ET on FOX, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) on the NASCAR Cup Series were determined on Thursday by random drawing, with Quin Houff, Brad Keselowski , Alex Bowman and Corey LaJoie tabulated to lead their respective fields to the green in Saturday’s four rounds of 15 laps.
A reminder about the format:
• Both the NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will have four qualifying races of 15 laps each. Only green flag laps will count. No overtime rules will be in effect, but the free pass and round-trip procedures will remain. The initial lineups, listed below, were determined by random drawing.
• The starting lineup for the main race will be determined by a formula that weighs the final position plus the positions gained during each qualifying race. Drivers who finish first in the qualifying race earn 10 points, second place wins nine, third place wins eight and so on. In addition, drivers earn a crossing point for each position obtained in their qualifying race; there are no point deductions or “negative points” for drivers who lose positions in the qualifying race. In addition, these points are used only to calculate the initial line-up and do not count towards the league standings.
• Draws on these combined point totals will be broken by the points of the current team owner.
