‘Serial stowaway’ with history of hack on Chicago O’Hare

A woman with a history of “serial clandestine” and sneaking on flights was arrested at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport after police were informed of her ankle bracelet, officials said on Wednesday.

Marilyn Hartman, 69, was already awaiting sentencing for attempted escape on a commercial spacecraft when her GPS anklet went off around noon on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

The alarm indicated that Hartman was outside the “residential facility where she” had been ordered to stay, the statement said. After Hartman did not answer his phone, authorities said they saw the anklet heading towards O’Hare.

She arrived at Terminal 1 at around 1:38 pm CT and an “alarm siren was activated on Hartman’s device”, leading to her arrest by the Chicago police before she could “enter any safe area,” said the sheriff.

Hartman will be charged with a felony escape during Tuesday’s trip to O’Hare, the sheriff said. She was still in custody on Wednesday, without bail until her next court hearing, scheduled for Thursday, according to prison records.

It was not clear on Wednesday whether Hartman hired a lawyer, the sheriff said. It was not possible to contact a representative from the Cook County State Attorney’s Office for comment.

Hartman has a long history of trespassing. Since the first incident at San Francisco International Airport in February 2014, she has been accused of similar incidents in Los Angeles, Arizona and Minnesota, as well as Chicago.

In 2018, Hartman took a British Airways flight and arrived in London before the airline realized she had no ticket and sent her back to Chicago.
