Serena Williams may seem superhuman on the tennis court, but she has the same fears as other parents.

In a new interview in The Guardian, the four-time Olympic gold medalist answered a round of questions about her personal life, including her biggest fear: “Not being there, and close enough, for my daughter”.

Williams and her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, are the parents of a three-year-old girl named Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., who in The Guardian interview, Williams calls it the “greatest love” of his life. The 39-year-old tennis star often shares photos of his daughter on social media – which he calls Olympia – that show the couple’s affection for each other. “We are not going to spend a day apart until she is eighteen,” she joked once during a Vogue interview.

The girl is already pulling her mother to balance on the tennis court. “Turn, turn, reach, head, move on,” Williams captioned a recent Instagram photo of young Olympia with a racket in her hand.

Olympia also has her own Instagram account (managed by her mother and father), where other mother-daughter moments can be found.

Williams, who recently launched a collection of bags with the company Away, has been open about the struggles of motherhood. “” As an athlete, you cannot be vulnerable. You have to be strong, “she said TODAY Parents in 2020. “As a mother, you are completely vulnerable to everything. And that’s what makes it scary.”

Elsewhere in The Guardian Williams interview shared the trait she most deplores in herself (“being very busy”), the best kiss of her life (with Ohanian at her wedding in 2017), her most precious asset (“My Bible”) and her most precious moment embarrassing – if one existed. “I’m not ashamed,” she told the outlet.

When asked what keeps her up at night, she replied simply, “My daughter”.
