Surreal scene down there … tennis fans HAVE STADIED to watch the Australian Open fit games – no masks anywhere !!!
… and Serena Williams I loved every second of it !!!
Don’t worry – this was not a super-spreading event … because of the strict quarantine rules and other regulations in place to combat COVID, Australia is actually a coronavirus-free area.
In fact, the authorities announced on Friday that the entire country has not had a positive case in almost two weeks !!!
So an estimated crowd of about 4,000 packed an arena in Adelaide on Friday to watch tennis stars like Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka and Novak Djokovic preparation for the Aussie Open … and it was all amazing.
Check out the photos … the fans were shoulder to shoulder, without masks and without social distance – and without worrying about getting sick.
As for the players, everyone was forced to go through a 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Australia to ensure that they would not spread the virus … and most publicly expressed how difficult this was.
Williams, however, spoke after her departure with Osaka and was grateful for the rules and regulations that allowed her and others to play without a mask and without fear of catching COVID.
“We haven’t played for a crowd in over a year.”

“We haven’t played for a crowd in over a year,” said Williams. “So, it’s been a long time. This is really cool.”
Serena thanked the Australian public for “welcoming us and trusting our laws” – adding: “We are very happy to be here and now it’s worth it”.
Tennis stars are expected to stay in Australia for the next few weeks … the Open begins February 8 in Melbourne, where more unmasked crowds are expected.
