Senator Hawley’s ‘smart policy’ to promote the idea that he was unjustly punished: Kurtz

“MediaBuzz” host Howard Kurtz said on Monday that Senator Josh Hawley’s promotion of the idea that he was unjustly punished is “smart politics”.

Kurtz made the comments in “America Reports” on Monday, reacting to an opinion piece by the Republican senator from Missouri published in the New York Post the day before, in which he criticized the cancellation of the culture.

In the article entitled “It’s time to rise up against America’s gagging,” Hawley warned that the United States could end up like Communist China, unless conservatives unite against the rising trend.

“Everyone knows what a credit score is. But social credit scores are new,” wrote Hawley. “They are the latest corporate import from communist China, where the government and large companies monitor the opinions and social statements of every citizen.”

Hawley on Jan. 6 joined a House member’s objection to Pennsylvania Electoral College votes, prompting two hours of debate in each chamber about the validity of the ticket and votes on whether Congress should reject it.

Democratic senators filed an ethics complaint against him and Senator Ted Cruz because of their objections to the Electoral College. Cruz opposed Arizona voters.

“I don’t like canceling culture and I understand why Josh Hawley is angry,” said Kurtz, citing the fact that Simon & Schuster decided not to publish Hawley’s next book after the pro-Trump riot on the United States Capitol in January 6.

Kurtz also pointed out that a fundraiser planned for Florida in February for Hawley was canceled earlier this month, when the Loews Hotels hotel chain decided to withdraw from the event after the Capitol riot.

“I, at least, will not back down,” Hawley wrote in Sunday’s article. “My book will be published and I will continue to represent the people of my state without fear or favor, whatever the left or corporations say.”

Hawley’s book “The Tyranny of Big Tech” will now be published by conservative Regnery Publishing, the company announced last week.

Kurtz noted that “as a United States senator, Josh Hawley was not exactly canceled”.

“His book was chosen by Regnery Publishing, he just had this article [in] one of the biggest newspapers in America, he has a Twitter account, he can talk on the floor and he can give interviews and he can give press conferences, “said Kurtz.

He added that “companies are private companies that have the right to support or not support anyone in public life”.

“This is Josh Hawley’s smart policy,” added Kurtz.

“He was not so well known, he is said to have his eye on a race for the White House in 2024 and energizes his Republican base by promoting the idea that he is being unjustly punished for fighting Donald Trump against President Biden being formally accepted as 46th president and this is a good policy in a Republican Party where Trump still has considerable dominance. ”
