Donald Trump left early with another statement, issued from his bowling in Florida and about one of his favorite subjects: immigration.

“Our border is now totally out of control thanks to Joe Biden’s disastrous leadership,” began a former president well versed in struggles to deal with conditions on the southern border and, it could be argued, disastrous leadership.

The rest of the statement was a rant about not treating the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers well, a confusing overhaul of the political positions of the hardline Trump administration and allegations that Biden had caused a “spiral tsunami”And it triggered a“ frontier nightmare ”.

Among the actions since taking office, Biden has suspended the Trump administration’s policy of staying in Mexico for those seeking asylum in the United States – see below – and sought to reunite children with their parents after they were separated on the southern border under a of Trump’s most controversial initiatives.

Some actions by federal authorities under Biden remain controversial, however. Here’s Moustafa Bayoumi, writing for the US Guardian last month:

This week, the Biden government did the unthinkable. It has reopened a Trump-era place of detention for migrant children. The detention center, a converted field for oil field workers in Carrizo Springs, Texas, is expected to house 700 children between 13 and 17 years old, and dozens of children have already arrived there.

This is a terrible development, which reminds me of some of the worst abuses of the Trump years.

At the White House today, press secretary Jen Psaki was asked about Trump’s statement. She said: “We don’t follow our advice or advice from ex-President Trump on immigration policy … We will chart our own way forward, and that includes treating children humanely. “

Eric Swalwell sues Trump over Capitol attack

Donald Trump legal post-presidential risk it is a favorite subject among liberals traumatized by his four years in power, and today Eric Swalwell, a California congressman who briefly ran for his party’s presidential nomination, but served more memorably as manager of the Chamber in both impeachment trials , sought to increase the stack.

In a lawsuit filed in Washington DC, the Democrat accused Trump, his lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Mo Brooks, an Alabama congressman, of making “a clear call to action” before the Capitol riot on January 6, which supporters of Trump responded by attacking the halls of Congress.

Here’s a little of what the suit says:

Trump directly incited violence on Capitol Hill which followed and then watched with approval as the building was invaded. While Trump was instructing them to go to the Capitol, insurgents were already forcing their way through the barricades, trying to breach the building, while blowing up Trump’s speech in a megaphone.

Trump adviser Jason Miller told ABC News: “After failing miserably with two rumors of impeachment, [Swalwell is] attacking our greatest president with yet another witch hunt. It is a shame that a committed member of Congress like Swalwell is still on the House’s intelligence committee. “

Trump has already been sued by Congressional Democrat Bennie Thompson, who joined the action by the National Association for the Advancement of People of Color. The former president was served in this case this week.

Other cases of concern to Trump include investigations into his financial affairs in New York and his attempts to reverse his defeat in the Georgia elections.

On the subject of Trump and the Capitol riot, in the meantime, here are some additional readings by Kari Paul:
