Walgreens will begin administering coronavirus vaccines at 300 locations in North Carolina.
More than 31,000 doses of the vaccine will be administered to those eligible as of February 12.
Walgreens was chosen by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Department of Health and Human Services to provide vaccines in 15 states and jurisdictions as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.
The CDC chose states and jurisdictions for the program to help increase access to the vaccine in clinically underserved areas and areas with high scores for social vulnerability, which are the potential negative effects on communities caused by external stresses on human health. The CDC will distribute a certain amount of vaccines to Walgreens at each location.
“Walgreens was one of the first pharmacies to begin administering COVID-19 vaccines in December to employees and residents of long-term care facilities, and we hope to leverage our experience to support the federal government and the CDC in expanding access to these vaccines.” John Standley, the president of Walgreens, said in a statement.
Once vaccination appointments are available, people need to go to the Walgreens website to schedule them. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
