CVS Health will begin giving COVID-19 vaccines to eligible people on February 11 at 100 CVS Pharmacy locations across California, the company announced on Tuesday.
People can start making appointments at participating stores as early as February 9, as stores receive vaccine shipments.
“The list of specific stores will be available on CVS.com as stores receive vaccine shipments and consultations become available,” a spokeswoman told the Times of San Diego. “Communities listed in [our] press release are not the only communities where we will offer COVID-19 vaccines in our CVS pharmacies. “
The supply for the limited launch in the state, which is obtained directly from the federal pharmaceutical partnership program, will be about 81,900 doses.
The participating CVS pharmacies are in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, La Jolla and elsewhere in San Diego, the company said.
As more supplies become available, the company expands to more locations and offers additional scheduling.
“One of our greatest strengths as a company is our presence in communities across the country, which makes us an ideal partner to administer vaccines in a safe, convenient and family-friendly manner,” said Karen S. Lynch, president and CEO of CVS Health. “We continue to be grateful for the commitment of our colleagues at the front, whose dedication allowed us to provide care and peace of mind during the pandemic.”
Vaccines at participating CVS pharmacies in California will be available to individuals who meet state criteria, which will be confirmed by the state prior to implementation.
Patients must register in advance at CVS.com or through the CVS Pharmacy app, and people without online access can contact CVS customer service at (800) 746-7287. Unmarked vaccination will not be provided.
The availability of COVID-19 vaccines in California is part of an initial launch in 11 states and includes approximately 335 CVS pharmacy locations in Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
The vaccines will eventually be available at CVS Pharmacy locations across the country, subject to product availability, with the capacity to administer 20 to 25 million vaccines per month.
