Trent Reznor covered David Bowie’s “Fantastic Voyage” and “Fashion” as part of the live tribute broadcast to “Just for One Day”, which – after a one-day delay due to Covid-19 technical difficulties and restrictions – was aired on Saturday night, the day after what would have been the 74th birthday of the deceased icon.
The simplified version of Tenant“Fantastic Voyage” featured the frontman of Nine Inch Nails alongside longtime collaborator Atticus Ross and Bowie keyboardist Mike Garson, who also hosted the event. In “Fashion”, the trio joined Reznor’s wife and How to Destroy Angels bandmate Mariqueen Maandig Reznor, who provided background vocals on Scary (and super scary) monsters track.
“In the early nineties, David told me, keep an eye on this next singer. He’s someone noteworthy, ”said Garson in his introduction to Reznor, whose Nine Inch Nails toured with Bowie in 1995.“ Having this gentleman become a very close friend and an artist that I admire is a beautiful thing ”.
Other Just for One Day artists included Adam Lambert, Peter Frampton, Andra Day, Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople, Yes’ Rick Wakeman, the Ground Control supergroup (featuring Dave Navarro and Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction, Corey Taylor and Foo from Slipknot (Taylor Hawkins of the Fighters) and Duran Duran, who covered “Five Years” for the live broadcast.
Tickets for watching Just for One Day are still for sale, with $ 2 of each ticket will be donated to Save the Children, an organization that Bowie supported with funds raised from his famous 50-year-old 1997 show at Madison Square Garden.
