With sales falling due to the coronavirus pandemic and decreased pedestrian traffic in shopping malls, Macy’s is closing some of its stores.

Macy’s informed employees at 45 locations, including five at Texas malls, that its stores would be closed in 2021, reports CNBC.

Texas stores scheduled to close include:

  • Golden Triangle Mall located at A, 2201 South Interstate 35 East Ste. in denton
  • Post Oak Mall located at 1508 Harvey Road in College Station
  • Rivercenter Mall located at 151 Bowie St. in San Antonio
  • Rolling Oaks Mall located at 6909 North Loop 1604 East Ste. 2055 in San Antonio
  • Ridge Mall View located at 2401 South Stemmons Freeway Ste. 6000 in Lewisville

“As previously announced, Macy’s, Inc. is committed to correctly sizing our store fleet, concentrating our existing retail locations in desirable A and B malls with good traffic,” a spokesman told Business Insider. “These closings bring us closer to reaching the right mix of mall-based stores”

According to Business Insider, the closings are outside the company’s plan to close a fifth of its stores by 2023.

As selected locations are preparing to close this year, some have already started liquidation sales, while others plan by the end of the month.
