Get ready to start another Zoom award season.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is announcing nominations for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards on Wednesday, officially launching the awards season. For the first time at Globes, the February 28 ceremony will be broadcast from both sides.

The nominations, which pay tribute to the best performances and productions in film and television in 2020 – the year we needed entertainment more than ever – are being revealed by previous winners Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson starting at 8:36 am via broadcast Live.

Presented by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Golden Globe is due to air on Sunday, February 28. The Globes, which will be broadcast on NBC, are normally held on the first Sunday of the year, but have been delayed amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

This year also marks the premiere of the ceremony, which will be broadcast from two different coasts – instead of Beverly Hills, California, where it is usually held. Fey will host the Rainbow Room at the Rockefeller Center in New York, while Poehler will be at the usual venue, the Beverly Hilton.

The nods in the main categories are big signs of what lies ahead for the Oscars later – although this year sees a much longer interval between ceremonies. The 2021 Oscar, usually held in February, was postponed to Sunday, April 25, in the hope that cinemas would reopen so that more films were eligible. Instead, it changed the rules, making only streaming movies eligible for the first time.

Although the format of the Globes show is still unknown, the Oscar ceremony will definitely be an “in person” event at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, the Academy said in December.

This year’s Globes marks the fourth time that Fey, 50, and Poehler, 49, will share hosting tasks together. The pair have hosted Globes from 2013 to 2015, although this marks the first time that former “SNL” co-stars will do so in a pandemic and on opposite sides of the country.

Jane Fonda, 83, is expected to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the highest honor given to an “individual who made an incredible impact” in cinema, during the 78th annual ceremony. Norman Lear, 98, will take home the Carol Burnett Award for his iconic contributions to the history of television.
