Solar Gray is about to be a fast and smooth action platform game of Hyper Light Drifter Heart Machine studio, and now there’s a trailer to prove it.
Heart Machine showed for the first time Solar Gray in June, during the big PlayStation 5 gaming event from Sony, but we didn’t get a good look at the gameplay until today’s State of Play live stream. THE Solar Gray The gameplay trailer features images captured on PS5 and reveals an expansive setting starring Rei, a Voidrunner on a mission to save her planet from a black hole that devours worlds. The gameplay is fast and fluid, with a focus on skating over gray clouds and jumping between platforms, taking down enemies along the way.
Hyper Light Drifter was a highly successful 2D action RPG released in 2016, and Solar Gray it is a faithful evolution of the aesthetics of creative director Alx Preston. It transitions from the bright art style with neon lines, the studio’s trademark, to a 3D environment, placing a small but powerful protagonist at the center of a big and scary world.
Solar Gray is going to the PlayStation 4, PS5 and the Epic Games Store later this year. It is published by Annapurna Interactive.
Hyper Light Drifter co-designer Teddy Dief is also working on a new project, We are OFK, with his studio on the Palmtree Team. We are OFK is an interactive musical series about four 20-year-old friends trying to become a band in modern Los Angeles, and has a decidedly more pastel palette than Hyper Light Drifter – or Solar Gray, for that matter.
