British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is announcing the government’s public spending plans for the year.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government embarked on an unprecedented fiscal stimulus last year, when the economy was hit by the coronavirus pandemic, suffering its sharpest contraction in more than 300 years.
The UK’s 2021 budget comes at a time when Covid-19’s national restrictions are to be phased out over the coming months. Analysts are expecting possible tax increases and a nod to the future tightening will appear in the latest budget announcement on Wednesday.
