See JJ Redick being sent off for passing the ball to the referee

There was no way it was worth expulsion.

JJ Redick suffered a technical foul at the start of Sunday’s fourth period against Boston through language addressed to a referee after not receiving a call he felt he deserved. On the next run down the court, Redick scored a foul, rolled the ball back to team boss Josh Tiven – who hit Redick instantly with a second technique.

After the game, Tiven spoke to a pool reporter about the incident.

Uhhh … no.

I understand. The referees have players, coaches and everyone else in the arena in their ears throughout the game, trying to influence decisions. There is arrogance. People are cursing and cursing them. It must be frustrating – but the referees are paid to overcome this. Not to take it personally. Tiven clearly did this because the launch of the ball was not “hard” and did not deserve the ejection.

We’ll see if the NBA rescinds the technique.

Even without Redick, Pelicans came back from 24 to win the Celtics in OT.
