In videos posted to his Twitter and YouTube accounts, Maezawa announced that he is inviting eight people from all over the world to fill the vacancies he has already paid for for the unfinished commercial starship, “Starship”, which is due to take off in 2023. According to the video, the qualities that Maezawa is looking for in his potential crewmates are only twice: first, that “whatever your activity, when you go to space, I hope that you can expand your limits to help other people and a larger society in some way”. He wants people who can use his experience in space to do even greater things with his work than before. Second, Maezawa wants passengers who are “willing and able to support other crew members who share similar aspirations”
