SPOKANE, Wash. – A COVID vaccination station is opening at Spokane Arena on Wednesday – here is everything you need to know about scheduling your appointment to receive the vaccine.
To receive a dose of the vaccine, you must first make an appointment by scheduling an online appointment via the Spokane Regional Health District website.
Online appointments will open on Wednesday at 9am and can also be booked on CHAS.org. There will be no walk-ins or waiting lists.
The reason for this is that healthcare professionals are looking to keep the number of people in the location at a safe level, according to the COVID-19 guidelines. It also allows them to prepare the right amount of vaccine so they don’t waste it.
CHAS will verify your ID when you show up for your appointment, as Spokane Arena is just a vaccination site for Washington residents.
At the moment, the only people eligible for the vaccine in Spokane County are:
- High-risk healthcare professionals in healthcare settings
- High-risk rescuers
- Residents and employees of long-term care institutions
- All other workers at risk in healthcare settings
- Everyone aged 65 and over
- All persons aged 50 and over in multigenerational families
The arena’s vaccination site will be open seven days a week, from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9 am to 3 pm, on weekends.
You can find out if you qualify by visiting the Department of Health’s PhaseFinder website.
CHAS has about 3,000 doses of vaccine available by next Tuesday and plans to vaccinate around 500 people a day. CHAS expects vaccine shipments to increase in size soon.
Some people called and sent emails saying that the vaccination site is for CHAS patients only, but that is not true. CHAS is only vaccinating its patients for now, but as of Wednesday vaccinations are open to the public.
You are encouraged to call your own provider first to see if they have any appointments available, but if not, you can call CHAS to schedule an appointment at Spokane Arena.
The online registration will ask you to provide insurance information if it is covered, but if it is not, CHAS will still accept you for an appointment.
Finally, if you are unable to drive to the Arena, there are other options available:
- Bus: The Spokane Transit website has information on regular bus routes
- Paratransito: Transportation to the Arena clinic will be available through the Paratransit services offered by Spokane Transit. The door-to-door service is available to anyone aged 60 or over with proof of identity. There is no cost for those who have a Paratransit bus card; those without a card will be charged $ 2 each way or $ 4 roundtrip (cash only). Call 509-328-1552 to schedule a tour, preferably a day out.
