Governor Kate Brown will give a press conference on Friday at 11 am to discuss Oregon’s ongoing response to the coronavirus. She will be accompanied by representatives of the Oregon Health Authority.
Brown’s press conference takes place before seniors aged 80 and over become eligible for vaccination starting on Monday. But state officials have warned that there will not be enough doses for everyone, with teachers, prisoners and health care providers also eligible amid limited federal government supplies.
The Oregon Health Authority reported on Thursday 730 new confirmed or presumed cases of coronavirus and seven more deaths, with cases remaining well below the December peak.
The agency also announced that it would begin to release data on more contagious variants of the virus present in Oregon. As of Thursday, there were four cases of the variant first identified in the UK, officials said, and no cases of the South African or Brazilian variant.
