See Fiat’s ‘Hey Google’ family of cars with voice assistant

Technology companies like Google have been putting their technology in cars for years, but a new collaboration marks the first time that drivers will be able to drive a real Google-branded car.

Fiat recently unveiled the new special edition of the Fiat 500 “Hey Google” family of vehicles, which has Google Assistant technology that allows owners to remotely communicate with their cars and display Google logos and design features on the outside and inside the cars.

The Italian automaker, owned by Stellantis, announced the collaboration with Google on Wednesday, with a press release announcing its three new special editions of the Fiat 500 – the Fiat 500, the crossover 500X and the multifunctional vehicle 500L – as ” where Google technology meets coolness. “

The three cars, which vary in size, from the two-door Fiat 500 subcompact to the four-door crossover SUV 500X, all have a lot of Google technology.

They have a 7-inch touchscreen on the car’s dashboards that comes with the built-in Google Assistant. This allows users to connect to the car dashboard through the Google digital assistant on their smartphones or Google Nest Hub.

Fiat and Google say drivers of the new cars can even interact with their vehicles remotely.

“Wherever you are, even sitting on the sofa at home, just say ‘Hey Google, ask my Fiat…’, to know, for example, where the car was parked; how much fuel is available; where is the nearest authorized workshop; how many [miles] we cover on the day, “Fiat said in its press release.

The company adds that drivers may even ask Google Assistant to ask the car if they remembered to close the doors or the trunk of the car.

In addition to the technology, all Fiat 500 “Hey Google” cars feature small circular “Hey Google” logos on each side of the vehicle, just in front of the side mirrors, in addition to other elements decorated in the colors of the Google logo.

The pillars of the cars are “decorated with elements inspired by the colors of Google”.

The companies add that the new Hey Google Fiat 500s special edition “will be available soon” in 10 European countries, including the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland.

Google and Fiat have not announced prices for the new vehicles. A Fiat spokesman did not immediately respond to Make It’s request to comment on whether the cars would be sold in the U.S.

Google has already partnered with automotive companies such as Ford and General Motors, putting the tech company’s Android Auto software in cars to allow drivers to connect to infotainment screens in the car and even use voice commands to control music, navigation or other accessories when in the car.

Apple (which is reportedly building its own car) makes a similar software platform, called Apple CarPlay, while Amazon also offers Alexa Auto.
