FRISCO, Texas – Cowboys continue to increase defense as the second week of free action begins, agreeing to terms with ex-Lion starting security Jayron Kearse.
Kearse had a visit scheduled with the Cowboys on Wednesday, as well as security agents Damontae Kazee and Malik Hooker. It is a reported one-year deal for Kearse.
A choice of Clemson in the seventh round in 2016, Kearse spent his first four seasons as a reserve with the Vikings before starting seven games with Detroit last year. The Lions dismissed Kearse in December, and he signed with the Ravens’ training team before the playoffs.
The Cowboys also reached an agreement with former Falcons security guard Keanu Neal over the weekend, although Neal can play more as a linebacker than as a safety under defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
It is not clear at this point whether the Cowboys will reach an agreement with Kazee and / or Hooker. But Kearse adds depth to security, as well as a boost in special teams. He was a captain of special teams for the Vikings and has contributed coverage units throughout his career.
Kearse, 27, appeared in 73 career games (12 games) with 130 defense tackles, along with 10 pass separations and an interception.
