SEC postpones Tennessee-Vandy basketball game

The latest news on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on sports worldwide:

___

The Southeast Conference postponed Tuesday night’s basketball game between state rivals No. 10 Tennessee and Vanderbilt because of a combination of positive coronavirus tests, contact tracking and quarantine within the Commodores program.

The game was a late addition to the schedule because of the problems with COVID-19 in Missouri, where Vanderbilt was scheduled to play, and in South Carolina, Tennessee’s originally scheduled opponent. The SEC moved the previously scheduled trip from Tennessee to Vanderbilt from February 24th to Tuesday night for a rare home-and-home among rivals in consecutive games.

Vanderbilt is still scheduled to visit Tennessee on Saturday night, as originally scheduled.

The women’s basketball game between No. 4 UConn and Villanova, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed.

Villanova’s women’s basketball is paused due to problems with COVID-19 within the program. The Wildcats (8-2, 3-2 Big East) also postponed home games scheduled for Wednesday against Providence and on January 20 against DePaul. No makeup dates have been announced.

UConn (7-0, 6-0) is scheduled to host Seton Hall on Wednesday, a game that was moved after the Huskies had to cancel a trip to Xavier because of coronavirus problems in the musketeers program.

Coach Pep Guardiola confirmed that Sergio Aguero is not available for Manchester City’s game against Brighton in the English Premier League on Wednesday.

The Argentine striker lost the FA Cup victory over Birmingham on Sunday after being asked to isolate himself as a close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

“Quarantine, isolated – the rules. After nine or ten days, he will be back, ”said Guardiola at a news conference.

It is another setback for Aguero, whose return from knee surgery this season has been complicated by new joint pain and a hamstring injury.

Aguero hasn’t started a game since October, but was expected to participate last weekend.
