SEC Network celebrates George Rogers

In a celebration of Black History Month, the SEC Network recognized George Rogers, a great football player from South Carolina.

His 38th was retired by the football program because of his illustrious career in garnet and black, highlighted by him leading the nation in racing yards as a senior in 1980, which renewed him by winning the Heisman Trophy and being selected no. 1 overall in the 1981 NFL Draft. Rogers is South Carolina’s all-time race leader with 5,204 yards.

1977 – 12 games, 143 charges for 623 yards and three run touchdowns
1978 – 11 games, 176 carries for 1,006 yards and six running touchdowns
1979 – 12 games, 311 charges for 1,681 yards and eight run touchdowns
1980 – 12 games, 324 carries for 1,894 yards and 14 run touchdowns.

The native of Duluth, Georgia has become a Pro Bowl selection three times and an All-Pro selection twice. He won Super Bowl XXII with Washington. He led the NFL in running yards in his debut season and was the leader of the NFL touchdowns in 1986. He played from 1981-1987 with New Orleans and Washington.
