An Indian River County alert was issued this morning informing people of the open commitments, but they were full within 24 minutes. Brevard County is experiencing the same problem.
Residents are becoming frustrated, and many have doubts whether they will ever be able to get the much needed vaccine.
“I responded in 15 seconds to the ‘alert’ and filled out my information in 1 minute, and said that every time they were taken at Fairgrounds,” said Sebastian resident David Jamar Sebastian Daily.
“Someone from the health department is telling friends what is going to happen,” added Jamar.
The problem is across the state now, not just in Indian River and Brevard counties. There is a small stock of vaccines available and people are rushing to make an appointment.
“I received two emergency alerts about schedule availability at the Indian River County Fairgrounds. I sent the links to my elderly neighbors that I defend and they told me that it is impossible to get an appointment. They are well over 75 years old and have a range of illnesses, which would put them at the top of the vaccination list. They are finding it very difficult, ”said another resident Sebastian Daily.
Frustrations are increasing as some residents say people from the north are coming and getting all the vaccines; others say the health system has failed everyone.
“The Indian River alert system is for Indian River County only. Each county is providing COVID-19 vaccination information differently, as well as scheduling appointments for vaccines. To receive information about the COVID-19 vaccine as to when vaccine clinics will be available and how to schedule an appointment, choose ALERT Indian River at www.alertindianriver.com. When a clinic is scheduled, the alert system will send the information, which may include vaccination location, date and time of the vaccination clinic and how and where to make an appointment, to anyone who signed up for the alert system. Please note that this is not a nomination or waiting list system for the COVID-19 vaccine, ”said Stacy Brock, Indian River County Public Health Coordinator.
Sebastian Daily will be aware of this issue and will report any updates from the health department. In the meantime, be patient. There are only a small number of vaccines available, but more are coming.
