Seattle Seahawks exchange for Gabe Jackson, sign Gerald Everett

SEATTLE – The Seattle Seahawks are acquiring point guard Gabe Jackson of the Las Vegas Raiders for a fifth round pick in 2021, ESPN sources Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler said on Wednesday.

The Seahawks also agreed to a one-year contract with former Los Angeles Rams tight end Gerald Everett.

The switch to Jackson gives them an upgrade along the offensive line, something quarterback Russel Wilson said he wanted when he publicly expressed his frustrations with the organization after the season.

In Everett, Wilson gets another weapon in the passing game to go along with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Everett’s one-year deal is $ 7 million, with $ 6 million fully guaranteed, a source told Schefter.

The Seahawks, according to Fowler, came close to hiring point guard Kevin Zeitler before choosing the Baltimore Ravens. This would have brought Wilson together with his teammate in Wisconsin.

Jackson, 29, has spent his entire career with the Raiders, playing both on the left and right guard. Seattle started the week in need of a left and center guard, with Mike Iupati retiring and Ethan Pocic becoming an unrestricted free agent. The left of the Seahawks faces Duane Brown and the right Brandon Shell under contract for another season, while right guard Damien Lewis has three years left in his rookie contract.

In giving up his fifth round for Jackson, Seattle has only three options in this year’s draft: a second, fourth and seventh.

Everett will meet with the new Seahawks offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron, who has been with the Rams for all of Everett’s four seasons in the NFL. Waldron was his coach during Everett’s debut season, after the Rams recruited him in the second round of southern Alabama.

Everett, who turns 27 on June 25, comes from the best season of his career, which saw him pick up 41 passes for 417 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a 2-yard score. In a defeat in Week 5 of the Washington Football Team, Everett took four passes for 90 yards, the record for the season.

During the 2019 season, Everett had an extraordinary performance in the week 5 loss to the Seahawks, in which he managed seven passes for a record of his 136-yard career. It was his only 100-yard reception performance with the Rams.

Everett served mainly as a reserve for Tyler Higbee, picking up 127 passes for 1,389 yards and eight touchdowns in 61 games, including 11 games.

A tight end was a necessity for the Seahawks with Greg Olsen retiring. Jacob Hollister and Luke Willson are free agents. Everett will join a tight end group that also has Will Dissly, the pick of the fourth round in 2020 Colby Parkinson and the unwritten 2020 rookie Tyler Mabry.

Everett is Seattle’s second addition since the opening of the negotiation window on Monday, after cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, who also signed a one-year contract.
