Search for the defensive coordinator of the Raiders: Meet Joe Barry

We continue our study of the defensive coordinator candidates for the Las Vegas Raiders to replace the dismissed Paul Guenther.

Initially, the top two candidates appear to be former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and Los Angeles Rams linebackers coach Joe Barry, although other names may come up.

Previously, we saw Bradley and now it’s Barry’s turn.

Barry is the assistant coach and coach of the Los Angeles Rams linebackers.

Defensive NFL coordinator experience:
Barry was the defensive coordinator with Detroit Lions 2007-08 and Washington 2015-16. The main coach in Detroit with Barry was Raiders defensive line coach Rod Marinelli, who is Barry’s father-in-law.

He is known for:
Barry is an experienced NFL coach known as a great motivator.

Jon Gruden connection:
Bradley was the coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebackers from 2003 to 2006 under Gruden.

Why he would fit in Las Vegas:
He has been a defensive coordinator twice and Gruden knows and believes in him. The connection with Marinelli also doesn’t hurt your chances.
