Sean McVay takes part in the blame for Jared Goff’s struggles

Jared Goff took the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl in 2019.

Now, two years later, former general choice No. 1 has left Los Angeles. Coach Sean McVay is moving on – but he doesn’t do it without any guilt.

“When you look at the four years we spent together, you can often smile,” said McVay, through the NFL Network. “And I would say that there are a lot of things that when I refer, I would certainly like to be better for him in some cases … I will not run away from the things that could have been better for him as a leader and as a coach. “

Goff and two future first round draft choices were negotiated with Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford last month.

Although the team hired him for a massive extension after his appearance at the Super Bowl, Goff has since declined – both statistically and in his position with the team. McVay and the Rams even decided to start reserve John Wolford in their playoff game last season, although Goff said he was ready to go after minor thumb surgery.

When trade fell, Goff realized that he was no longer wanted in Los Angeles.

“I am very excited to be in a place that I know wants and appreciates me,” he said.

McVay: ‘I could have done better’

While it is easy to blame the quarterback for the offensive fights, McVay said that doing this “exclusively” in this case is “an unfair narrative”.

Much of that, he said, falls on him.

“I’m not going to make excuses about that, but there are a lot of things, even some of the decision making in the games,” he said, via the Los Angeles Times. “Are you always putting him in the right positions to succeed?

“And then, as a coach, as a leader, your job is to try to improve the situations and people you’re around, and there are certainly some moments that I know I could have really done better for our team and Jared in Special.”
