The Bills can take second place on Sunday with a victory over the Dolphins. Bills will also be in second place if the Steelers, who are resting Ben Roethlisberger and presumably other important players, lose to the Browns. It looks like Bills will be betting on the Browns by defeating the Steelers.
Via Andrew Siciliano of the NFL Network, Bills coach Sean McDermott said on Thursday morning on WGR radio that “is yet to be seen and determined”Whether the Bills will use their tickets on Sunday. Here’s the tip that McDermott may have dropped: he said the Bills will do what is best for “our team and our players”.
It is better for players to get some rest, to avoid potential injury in a meaningless game ultimately, and to be reloaded for the wild card round – especially if there is nothing to be gained strategically by playing.
The Bills could also use their starters initially, perhaps pulling them if / when the Browns moved away from Mason Rudolph and company.
That said, Buffalo has mistreated all his opponents since losing to the Cardinals, and there is something to be said for continuing to keep his foot on the gas. The right balance could be to keep the pedal on the metal, at least until seed # 2 is in hand.
